Judical Perroy Concert

Judical Perroy Concert

The third concert of the Portland International guitar series featuring French guitarist Judicael Perroy was an incredible gift to our audience.  Because of his extremely high level of technical ability, his intelligent musical interpretations, and his calm performance demeanor, he communicated to our audience the essence of the music in the purest form.  He played his entire set completely from memory and started the performance with J.S. Bach’s Second Lute Suite (BWV 997).  In the program, only the Prelude and Fugue to the suite were listed so the audience was very pleased when he continued to perform the remaining movements including the Sarabande, Gigue, and Double.  Following the conclusion of the suite, the audience roared in excitement after they had just witnessed an outstanding performance of a masterpiece.  As the evening went on, another exciting change to the program included a performance of Variations on a Theme by Handel, (Variations on the Harmonious Blacksmith) Op.107 by Mauro Giuliani.  We also got to hear some other exciting pieces on the program including a Guitar Sonata by Antonio Jose and works by Villa-Lobos.  He closed his concert with an explosive rendition of Sevilla by Isaac Albeniz.

Judicael Perroy also taught a master classes the following day which will be the first of seven master classes scheduled this season in the Portland International Guitar Series.  Aspiring guitarists attending the class benefited from a lesson in everything from technique, to musicianship, to practice strategies, to performance preparation.  With nearly an hour of Q & A, the class auditors were able to tap into his deep knowledge stemming from a lifetime of experience.
