Portland, OR (November 2018). U.S. Classic Guitar President William Jenks is proud to announce the first concert of the fourteenth annual 2018 -2019 Portland International Guitar Series XIV (formally known as the Portland Classic Guitar Concert Series) featuring the Patterson/Sutton Duo on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 8 p.m.

This exciting concert will kick off the first of eleven concerts in our exciting new venue located at the Eliot Center in downtown Portland.  Before the concert, come join us for a pre-concert reception between 7 PM and 8 PM where we will be serving complimentary appetizers.  Beer, wine, and soft drinks will also be available for purchase.  The reception will be held in the Atrium next to the Eliot Chapel.  The easiest way to get to the reception is enter the building at the 1226 SW Salmon St. entrance. You can also get to the reception from the 1011 SW 12th Ave., Portland, OR main Eliot Chapel entrance.

Praised by The Strad for their "Wit and imagination", the trailblazing cello and guitar duo of Dr. Kimberly Patterson and Dr. Patrick Sutton are known for their passionate performances and engaging stage presence as they bring the rich cello and guitar repertoire to audiences around the world. The duo have been featured on Performance Today on American Public Media, Radio New Zealand, Fine Music Radio South Africa, among others. Featured artists at the 2016 Guitar Foundation of America Convention, the Patterson/Sutton Duo frequently concertizes throughout the United States and abroad with recent engagements as Juilliard Global Visiting Artists. 

 “Cold Dark Matter: Music for Cello & Guitar,” on the MSR Classics label in May of 2013 to critical acclaim. Composer, Dušan Bogdanović declared: “Everything [on Cold Dark Matter] is performed with excellence and sensitivity. I especially like the beautiful tone and sense of lyricism, though the virtuosity of both is apparent.”  Their program will include modern works Quatre Pieces Intimes by Dusan Bogdanovic (1955-), Sonata for cello & guitar, by Mathias Duplessy (1972-), and works by Stephen Goss (1964-), Jaime Zenamon (1953-), Atanas Ourkouzounov (1970), Atanas Ourkouzounov (1970), and more.

Dr. Patterson holds degrees from the Juilliard School, the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Sutton holds degrees from the University of Denver and the University of Colorado at Boulder. The duo became husband and wife in June of 2017.
